Frequently asked questions

Who can attend?

Q: I’m not a Cochrane Collaboration contributor. Can I still attend the colloquium?
A: Yes! We encourage anyone with an interest in evidence informed health care to attend.

Q: I’m not a Canadian citizen. Do I need special documentation to enter Canada?
A: The answer varies per country. We encourage all attendees to ensure they have proper documentation before travelling. All visitors from outside of Canada require a valid passport. Visit the Visa Requirements page for more information.

Q: Can my spouse or partner attend?
A: Anyone wishing to attend the Colloquium must pay a registration fee. Extra social event tickets may be purchased based on a first come first served basis. You will see this option during registration and payment.


Q: Can I pay my registration fee at the Colloquium?
A: No, all fees must be paid up front with a valid Visa or MasterCard using our online registration and payment system.

Q: Is the registration fee refundable?
A: Conference registration cancellations received in writing before 6 September 2013 will be refunded in full less an administrative fee of 10 per cent. Click here for more information.

Q: I only plan on attending one day of the Colloquium. Can I pay for one day only?
A: Yes, the registration fee is $350 per day, or $200 for students.

Q: Several of my colleagues and I are registering for the Colloquium. Is there a special group rate?
A: No, only individual registration is available.

Abstract/Workshop submissions

Q: I already have a Colloquium account. Can I reuse my email and login information?
A: No, you must create a new account for this year’s Colloquium.

Q: I submitted an abstract but haven’t received a confirmation email. How do I know if it went through?
A: Log in to your Colloquium account and click ‘My submissions’ in the blue menu on the left side of the screen. This page will list any content you have submitted and will update you on its status. If your submission is not listed, contact Catherine McNair at and ask for confirmation.

Q: I missed the abstract submission deadline. Will you accept late submissions?
A: The call for abstracts will automatically close on 4 April 2013 at 12 a.m. If you were unable to submit your abstract due to technical difficulties with the Colloquium website, contact Catherine McNair at Otherwise, no late submissions will be accepted.

Q: My abstract was accepted, but I can no longer attend the Colloquium. Can I send someone to present in my place?
A: Yes, you have until 6 September 2013 to advise the event organizers of a substitute delegate. Please email if you are unable to present at the Colloquium.

Québec City

Q: Do I need to bring an electrical outlet adapter if I’m travelling from outside of Canada?
A: Yes, if you are travelling from outside North America you will need to bring an adapter for your laptops, hair dryers, etc. The information you need can be found here.

Q: Do citizens of Québec City speak English?
A: Though French is the official language of Québec, the majority of the Québec City population, especially those involved in the service or tourism industry, are fluent in both English and French.

Q: Will I receive Continuing Medical Education credits for attending the Colloquium?
A: Information about accreditation can be found here.

Q: Will I receive a certificate of attendance for the Colloquium?
A: Yes. More information to come.

Q: Do I need to book my own hotel room?
A: Yes, all Colloquium attendees must arrange their own accommodation. A list of recommended hotels and discount codes can be found here.

Q: Are there attractions and restaurants I can visit outside of the Colloquium venue?
A: Yes, please visit our ‘Getting together’ page for a list of recommendations.


Q: Can I receive a discount on my travel fare?
A: Yes, those flying via Star Alliance or Via Rail can access a discount. Find more information here.

Future Colloquia

Q: Where and when will the 2014 be held?
A: The 22nd Cochrane Colloquium will be held in Hyderabad, India from 21 - 25 September 2014.
