Abstract

Objectives: This workshop will present, for discussion, a stakeholder engagement model and process used in a variety of reviews. Key points for discussion include a comparison of the engagement model and Cochrane consumer involvement in reviews and how the engagement model may be adapted to the consumer process. Description: We will present a stakeholder engagement model and process as applied in over 25 reviews with over 100 stakeholders. The model depicts a number of engagement opportunities: topic selection, meetings for question and search refinement, inclusion of stakeholder in the review, and dissemination opportunities. The potential benefits to including stakeholders/consumers in the process of systematic reviews include increased quality, accessibility and dissemination/uptake of findings. A challenge is that stakeholder/consumer interactions can be time and resource intensive. Despite these challenges we consider stakeholder/consumer involvement a valuable part of conducting a systematic review and the dissemination of evidence. We propose to engage in a discussion with workshop participants about potential adaptations to the engagement process based on the collective experience present. By the end of the workshop, participants will have an understanding of a variety of stakeholder/consumer engagement opportunities and an enhanced appreciation of the benefits of this engagement in reviews.
